Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you located?
We're located in a strip mall on the SE corner of I-25 and Hampden in Denver between Wahoos Fish Tacos and Noodles & CO, only two blocks from the Southmoor Light Rail station. There is free parking in front of the studio and in the parking structure across the lot.
What is a Sipping N' Painting Hampden public class like?
We provide all of the supplies, instruction and encouragement you need to paint a beautiful acrylic painting on canvas in 2 hours (certified Bob Ross oils classes are longer -- see details), while you listen to music. If you want to upgrade to painting on a wooden board, just pay the bartender an extra $10 when you get there. We will instruct you step by step -- or you can choose to do your own painting with some general tips from the artist Instructor. No previous experience is needed. We sell wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages at our bar, and provide complimentary light snacks.
We also have a monthly watercolor workshop! Check out our calendar for details.
Do I need to sign up in advance?
Yes, like a sporting event or a movie, you must first pay for your seat before class begins, which ensures you have a seat. Buy your ticket early -- we often sell out in advance for Friday and Saturday nights.. You can email or stop by to see if we have room at the last minute, but we cannot guarantee we will.
Are you part of a chain?
No, our studio is local and family-owned by longtime residents of CO. All of our art is produced in-house at our studio by local Denver artists!
What is the cost of a Sipping N' Painting class at Hampden?
Our two-hour acrylic classes range between $30 and $40 (certified Bob Ross oil painting classes are more) depending on the day, time, and event. Busier times are priced a little higher than slower times of the week. You get the same great quality of class whatever the cost. Daytime open studio times allow you to paint without instruction for only $20 (see calendar tab for details).
What is included in the price?
We provide canvases, paints, brushes, easels, aprons, light snacks - and amazing instruction! If you do not want to paint on our standard sized 16x20 canvasses, we also have a few other sizes and shapes you can swap out for free, as well as wooden pallet boards for only $10 more (just pay the bartender when you get there)-- you choose! Wine, beer, soda, coffee, etc. are reasonably priced. We also sell a variety of light snacks at our bar for $2 per bag: chips, popcorn, trail mix, etc.
Is alcohol Included?
NO. We sell beer, wine, sodas, coffee and Izzies. Alcoholic beverages start at $4. We also have some premium wines and craft brews. (Due to CO state law, you may not bring in your own beverages from the outside!)
Are Children Allowed?
We do not allow babies, toddlers, and preschoolers in the studio -- it is not a child-proofed space. School-aged children 6 and older are welcome to attend most classes under the close supervision of a paying adult. The minimum age for Friday and Saturday evenings is 12 years of age (Friday and Saturday nights are popular date nights, and it is a more adult atmosphere).
Every person must have a paid ticket, regardless of age. Children must remain with, and supervised by, the adult who brought them at all times. Parents assume all responsibility for their children's safety. Children under 16 may not attend without a parent or guardian or another responsible adult.
We suggest bringing children ages 6 and older during the day on Saturday or Sunday, which are specially priced with families in mind! We also have occasional classes specifically for children during summer and holiday break weeks.
Can we bring in our infant as long as he/she is in a stroller?
No babies or small children are allowed in the studio... period. Sorry. We love kids and want them to be safe and happy --which is why they are better left at home with a sitter.
Can I just come and watch?
Sure, but you must pay for a ticket like everyone else. Painting is fun, so we prefer it if you paint with us!
What do I wear?
Whatever you want, so long as it's tops, bottoms and shoes. We provide aprons, but we recommend paint-friendly clothes just to play it safe!
What time do I need to arrive for a class?
We recommend arriving 20-30 minutes early to choose your seats, get your paints and enjoy some complimentary light snacks before we begin. On Friday and Saturday nights, we recommend 30 minutes.
What is your Cancelation /Refund Policy?
Customers may transfer their class to another future class, or request a refund of their admission price, by emailing us at least 24 hours before any class. Ticket fees paid to our ticketing partner, Eventbrite, are non-refundable. No refunds or transfers may occur the day of, or after the class. "No shows" will not be issued a credit, transfer or refund.
***During the COVID 19 Pandemic, we will gladly refund your money for missed classes. Just ask!***
If we cancel a class for any reason (bad weather, for example), we will refund your purchase price in full, including all ticketing fees. If you paid for your class with a 3rd party voucher, we will issue you a studio credit for another class.
How long is a class?
Classes last approximately 2 hours for our regular acrylic public classes (certified Bob Ross classes are longer).
What time are classes held?
Usually 6:30 pm M-F. Weekend times vary (see our calendar for exact times).
Do I have to paint the featured painting for that class?
No. People are welcome to paint whatever they want to paint at our classes. If you choose to follow your own inspiration, we will do our best to give you general coaching and encouragement in-between whole-class step-by-step instruction for the featured painting for that class. You are free to use any colors of paint you wish.
What if I come with my significant other and we don't want two of the exact same painting?
Our instructors will help you think creatively so you can leave the night with unique canvas art for your home. Remember, we have different sizes of canvas and another surface (DIY mini-pallets) you can choose, as well. Just let our staff know you would like to know your options.
Can we host a private party at Sipping N' Painting?
Yes! Contact us for details on hosting your next birthday party, team building event, bachelorette party or family reunion at Sipping n' Painting Hampden.
Can I celebrate my event in your public classes?
Yes! We offer group discounts for groups of 4 or more attending the same public acrylic class together -- just email us before registering to get the group rate! (Discounts and certificates not available for Bob Ross classes.) Please contact us in advance at firstname.lastname@example.org regarding our food policy if you wish to bring cupcakes or any other food item for your celebration.
Is the space handicapped accessible?
Yes! There is a ramp outside and our restrooms are roomy, with safety bars next to the commodes on one side.
Can I bring my service animal?
Pets and companion animals are not allowed inside the studio, with the exception of professionally trained service animals for people with disabilities. By federal law, service animals must be trained and well-behaved, or you may be asked to leave with them. They must be kept with you on a leash at your seat.
Can we arrive early to choose a seat or have a drink?
Yes, please do! Doors open 30 minutes before each class begins. We encourage everyone to come early to choose the best seat, and to get your drinks and refreshments before class begins. Seats are first-come, first served, so if you are coming with a group, please arrive 30 minutes early to make sure your group has seats together.
Do you do off-site events?
At this time, no. We have a beautiful studio in a great location with free parking, so we do not do mobile events. There are other companies in Denver who do. ***Covid 19 Update: We will consider requests for parties in backyards or parks. Just ask!***
What Precautions are you taking for COVID 19?
Sipping N' Painting Hampden is committed to the safety of our customers, staff, and the larger community. We are practicing all of the safety measures possible, including the following:
· At the Door -- Staff and customers are asked to use hand sanitizer and a staff member will take their temperature using our contact-less thermometer wand. A complimentary mask and gloves are also available at the door.
· All staff and customers MUST wear masks when moving around in the studio. Customers are permitted to remove their masks only when seated. Staff members wear their masks when moving about the room. For small private events, guests may remove masks entirely if everyone has a valid vaccination card.
· Improved Air Ventilation -- We have a high-grade HEPA filter on our HVAC, a standlone air purifier, and we use a combination of fans to keep fresh air moving in and out of the space. We do not share air with other units in the strip mall.
· Tables at social distancing minimums as required by city, state and federal guidelines. Family groups and friends who come together may be seated together, up to 5 per table.
· We now use disposable aprons and plastic cups. Snacks for sale at the bar are now individually pre-packaged.
· Studio common areas and restrooms are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized between classes. Hand sanitizer is available throughout the studio.
· We keep our maximum capacity at or below that required by the city, state and CDC regulations, for your safety.
Disclaimer: By entering the studio, you and any guests voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19 and agree not to hold the owners, Nancy Cronk and Saul Greenhut, Sipping N’ Painting Colorado, or any of their staff, employees, vendors, associates or volunteers liable for any illness or injury.
